It's been a while since my last PSA, so I thought I would do my part to make the world a happier place....

If you appreciate what someone has done for you (even if it is their job), let others know.

You might be saying to yourself, LDO?!?

But you would be surprised at how few people take the time out to put in a good word for their fellow man.

Example #1: You had great service at a restaurant.  Sure you can do the obvious thing and leave your server a 20+% tip.  But do you know what else you can do?  On your way out, tell the manager that your waiter (get the name off the check) was great.  Sadly, 9/10 times the manager hears about the staff, it's because of complaints.  Lots of bitches bitchin' out there.  Most restaurants have promotions/contests among the wait staff as to who can provide the best service.  So your server will be on their way to some additional cash/perks, AND it will stand out in their boss's mind that they are good at what they do.  And that is worth way more than the extra 5+% tip you left at the table (or in Disco's case, the $50 tip on a $25 check).  Mrs. Fly does this all the time, and the servers at our local restaurants love us.

Example #2: When was the last time you told a teacher / professor you appreciated what they did?  I was always a straight A student, but I don't think I ever said anything more than "thanks" at the end of the year (except for maybe my thesis advisor).  And I certainly never let their department heads or anyone higher up know.  It's just one of those things you don't think about.  The last two years, G's teachers went (a little) out of their way to help G get more acclimated.  So Mrs. Fly wrote them a lengthy thank you email AND CC:ED the PRINCIPAL OF THE SCHOOL.  Apparently, no one ever does this, so the teachers at the school love us.  Because people always bitch to the teachers and higher-ups about how their mentally and behaviorally challenged kid isn't getting As, but they never thank people and let the higher-ups know when someone's doing a great job.  It must be that lost passage in the bible - "do unto others... unless it inconveniences you."

Anyway, if you've had someone who has been great to you, take a few moments out of your day and let people know.  Just a few ways you can be good to your fellow man.

This public service announcement was provided by the biggest heathen on the planet...  Moi.
